For anyone who knows or would like to learn more about Jalyn, more intimately known as Jay, JB, Jay Bai, Baity, and many other names over his life, feel free to check out this interview. He shares the pride he’s grown to have in the names he’s been given and what he’s coming to understand about one's narrative via their lineage/family history.

β€œTo get to the place where I am now, running a business, pursuing a creative career, and thriving in an industry where anything but the best can sometimes fall through the cracks, I had to take a relatively unconventional route. There was no roadmap for me to get here and everyone who helped me along the way participated in a small miracle.

There is no other Jalyn Baity in the world, and I carry my name with pride and I handle my business with pride and thus, Baity Films...”

β€œThe giant faces of Capturing Belief”

Article by DETROIT FREE PRESS

Capturing Belief is an apprenticeship program that inspires young minds to embrace their natural curiosity and teaches them photography as a tool to self-discovery.

This past summer, as a part of their 2 month-long artist residency, Space Invaders, Jalyn Baity and several other artists joined together in creative spaces to learn and teach from each others’ artistic toolboxes and later, help bring together a mentee-led exhibition.

Parts of the summer were spent teaching workshops with the Space Invaders mentees, exploring mediums such as printmaking, podcasting, spoken word, photography, graphic design, and filmmaking.

Pictured left is the wheat pasting step of a mentee-led photo series and mass-collage at S.A.Y. Play Detroit, capturing young and old faces that make up a portion of Detroit’s population with photos taken and printed by Space Invaders mentees and participants.

Photos seen here were taken by Detroit Free Press Staff Photographer, Kimberly P. Mitchell.

β€œMeet 5 Detroit charter grads who are already making history” β€” featuring Jalyn Baity (pictured left)

Super honored to have been interviewed by MAPSA - Michigan's Charter School Association and featured in this article alongside so many other young changemakers from our city AND to have had one of the most transformative experiences in my life, getting to share spaces and conversations with the likes of President Barack Obama through the My Brother's Keeper Alliance, featured as the header image in the read.

I've just felt so full lately and so, this is exciting to share!

Please read these amazing stories HERE (or click the button below) if you have a moment, but here's a snippet from my interview:

"Jalyn took a few minutes to offer advice for the younger Detroiters making history with him.

'My advice to younger people is to be open to change. Be open to other ideas and sharing with people who don’t think the same as you and learning about experiences that you're not familiar with. Pushing yourself outside your comfort zone can only help to add texture and aid in grounding you in who you’re becoming."' - Jalyn Baity

β€œJalyn Baity (23) is a #BlackDetroiter making history. He mentors young men of color through the

My Brother's Keeper Alliance

.” - Skillman Foundation, 2021

Hey guys! I'm super grateful and really honored to share that I was chosen as one of 20 Black Detroiters Making History by The Skillman Foundation as apart of their effort to celebrate Detroit’s Black History and honor Black Detroiters this month!

I am humbled, beyond any true explanation, to have been recognized as someone making history, seeing as it's likely I've yet to witness the seeds I'm planting really take root. It's a great reminder, though, that in a lot of our efforts to make a positive difference in the world, no matter how small it may seem, it's still a nudge in the right direction.

And that's whether you're taking time to teach young people about our shared history or making strides to mentor young guys who are from where you're from or using your gift to share stories that you believe will give hope and a voice to the silenced and marginalized. I'm reassured that every bit of it is worth it. #HappyBlackHistoryMonth

Also, special thanks to our family over at Black Family Development, Inc. for all you do! #iamMBK #MBKDetroit

Wrapped on LOVE!

In September, we started back up with production on our film that’s been in the works for a year, LOVE - An Autobiographical Drama. After a few weeks of planning and bringing together our crew and talent, we started shooting in mid-September and just finished mid-October.

Throughout December and into the new year, we'll be knee-deep into post-production and working on getting a first edit of the film done.

I am overjoyed to be done filming for my directorial debut and I couldn't have done it without the immense amounts of support from tons of friends and extended family, countless colleagues, and other amazing creatives, and each of the incredibly talented actors and actresses.

Can't wait to premiere this thing! More updates soon!
